Mass General Brigham Home Hospital Staff Protest, Citing Safety and Wage Concerns

On June 11, 2026, clinicians with Mass General Brigham's Home Hospital program, represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA), held a protest outside the system's Somerville headquarters. The demonstration occurred as the union negotiates its first contract with MGB for the home hospital staff.

According to the MNA, the clinicians are protesting what they describe as MGB's prioritization of patient census growth over the safety of patients and staff. The union stated that staff encounter unsafe home environments and that MGB has refused proposals for safety inspections, unlike other established programs.

The MNA also cited wages that are significantly below those of comparable hospital-based positions within the MGB system, which it claims hinders recruitment and retention. The protest occurred as MGB reported a $59.2 million operating gain for the fiscal year ending in September 2025, according to Stat News.
