Two Samaritan Hospitals in Oregon Eligible for Nearly $2M in Rural Maternity Care Grants
Two hospitals in Lincoln County, Oregon—Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital and Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital—are each eligible for up to $963,000 in grants. The funds are part of a $37.5 million state and federal initiative announ…

The two Lincoln County facilities are part of the five-hospital Samaritan Health Services system; a third system hospital, Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, is also eligible for the grant. In 2025, Samaritan Health Services had considered closing the birthing center at its Lincoln City hospital but ultimately decided against it. The health system is also undergoing a regulatory review by the Oregon Health Authority for a potential affiliation with Washington-based MultiCare.
According to a statement from a Samaritan executive, the funds will help sustain labor and delivery services by supporting provider retention, hiring, and resource expansion. The grants are intended to help rural hospitals facing financial pressures, which have contributed to the closure of other maternity units in Oregon. Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital recorded 110 births in 2025, while Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital recorded 123.
