Dana-Farber names Eliezer Van Allen as first chief AI officer

Van Allen will lead Dana-Farber's AI strategy, governance and portfolio across research, clinical, operational and administrative functions. The scope includes AI platform development and implementation, translational deployment of AI innovations, and building organizational capabilities and talent, per Becker's.

He will also head an executive council overseeing privacy, regulatory compliance, patient-facing risk and financial stewardship of the institute's AI investments. He retains his roles as chief of Dana-Farber's Division of Population Sciences and as the Chandra Nohria Family Chair for AI in Cancer Research.

A translational genomics investigator, Van Allen completed an oncology fellowship at Dana-Farber and has held faculty roles there since 2013. He is also a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and an institute member at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. According to Becker's, the appointment places Dana-Farber among academic and cancer centers with dedicated AI executives, including City of Hope and Cleveland Clinic.
