Waystar Survey Finds 86% of Providers Run Siloed or Manual Mid-Revenue Cycle Systems

A 2026 survey conducted by Qualtrics for Waystar found that 86% of CFOs, revenue cycle executives and mid-cycle leaders report their mid-cycle and claims systems are either siloed or require manual data transfers. Only 14% said they have a closed loop between mid-cycle and claims systems, while 80% manually move data between them and 6% described the systems as completely siloed, according to Waystar.

The vendor-funded research also found 66% of surveyed organizations rely on multiple vendors for mid-cycle technology while 14% use a single platform, and 68% cited lack of mid-cycle integration with their primary financial or claims platform as a top frustration. Waystar frames the resulting gaps as a source of revenue leakage, since utilization management, clinical documentation integrity and revenue integrity teams each see only part of the picture.

Waystar cited client results alongside the survey. Genesis HealthCare System, with 13,000 to 14,000 annual admissions, used Waystar's AI-powered capabilities for utilization management and CDI and reported a 98% review rate and roughly $4.9 million in revenue gain from identifying appropriate inpatient versus observation cases. Waystar also cited Infirmary Health's use of its CDI tools and an early-adopter example in which AI-powered anomaly detection identified $3 million in revenue per 10,000 admissions before claims submission.

The findings were published by Waystar on October 19, 2026, as part of its report on the state of the mid-revenue cycle.
