Under the agreement, Riverview Health will supply seven full-time certified athletic trainers, with four at the high school and one at each middle school. Parkview Sports Medicine will provide a full-time certified strength and conditioning specialist for the high school, as well as access to a sports dietitian and a peak performance coach. The school board approved the new contract for an annual cost of $300,000, according to media reports. The agreement follows the end of a 30-year partnership with Ascension St. Vincent after a proposed price increase, according to youarecurrent.com.

"Having athletic trainers in our schools allows us to build relationships with students, coaches and families long before an injury occurs," Julie Nix, president and CEO of Riverview Health, said in the announcement. "When you're part of the school community, you get to know the athletes, understand their goals and are better able to support them throughout the ups and downs of their athletic journey."

The collaboration aims to provide coordinated care, from injury prevention to mental performance.

"When athletic trainers, physicians and performance specialists are working together, athletes benefit from a level of coordination that's difficult to replicate anywhere else," said Dr. Robert Klitzman, an orthopedic surgeon and team physician with Parkview Sports Medicine. Klitzman specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, according to his professional biography.

Why it matters: Riverview Health is a 156-bed acute care hospital in Noblesville, Ind., and the flagship of the nine-member Riverview Hospital system. The partnership aligns with the system's focus on orthopedics, which Clinical Terminal data shows is a "strong" service line for the hospital. In September 2026, Riverview Health announced it was expanding its orthopedic services with new walk-in clinics and surgical technology. For its 2023 fiscal year, the hospital reported a net operating profit margin of -17.6% and 9.6 days of cash on hand, according to CMS cost report data. CMS awarded the hospital an overall rating of three out of five stars for 2025.
