In his new role, Naidu will lead the clinical operations strategy for Vitea, focusing on the company's market position, customer education, and overall strategy for AI governance in healthcare, the company stated. He will help Vitea and its clients develop practical AI governance strategies to ensure the sustainable adoption of AI at scale.
Vitea provides a centralized platform for health systems to manage AI adoption by registering, testing, governing, and monitoring AI tools across the enterprise, according to its website. The company aims to address risks associated with AI in healthcare, including patient data risks and the use of unapproved AI in clinical workflows, sometimes called "Shadow AI."
Naidu is a seasoned healthcare executive with experience as a hospital CEO, practicing surgeon, and management consultant. Vitea stated his background will be "instrumental" in guiding the company's strategy. His prior leadership roles include serving as Chief Executive Officer of Emanuel Medical Center and Doctors Hospital of Manteca. According to a news release from the health system, he led those teams through the COVID-19 pandemic while expanding clinical programs. Naidu also previously served as CEO and President of San Ramon Regional Medical Center and as Chief Clinical Officer at Sentara Healthcare.
Before moving into full-time leadership, Naidu was a laparoscopic surgeon who practiced for more than a decade. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine and a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, according to CVDoctorsHealthSystem.com.
Why it matters: Naidu’s appointment comes as health systems are adopting AI while facing increased risks related to patient safety, data protection, and regulatory compliance, according to a Clinical Terminal analysis. The broader trend in healthcare involves the increasing use of digital health platforms and AI to monitor patient health and improve outcomes, according to reports from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Center for Biotechnology Information.
