Workman takes leadership of the 301-bed facility, joining the public health system from rival Broward Health, where he was chief operating officer of the 409-bed Broward Health North. His appointment fills a vacancy created when the hospital's former CEO, Felicia Turnley, was promoted to CEO of Memorial Hospital Miramar, according to news reports.
In a statement, Memorial Healthcare System President and CEO Shane Strum said Workman is a “proven healthcare leader who knows how to bring people together and turn ambitious goals into measurable results.” Strum also highlighted Workman’s demonstrated ability to “improve patient and employee experiences, lead through periods of significant growth and change, and translate strategy into action,” according to the announcement.
At Broward Health North, Workman helped lead more than $100 million in construction and capital investments, Memorial Healthcare System stated. His duties there also included overseeing initiatives on hospital operations, patient throughput, and quality. His responsibilities extended to system-wide leadership roles, including for Broward Health’s Safety and Security program and its COO Council, according to multiple reports.
Before his tenure at Broward Health, Workman was the chief operating officer at HCA Florida University Hospital and held executive positions at Tenet Healthcare. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the board of its South Florida chapter, according to his new employer.
In his own statement, Workman said he was honored to join the health system. “I look forward to working alongside our physicians, nurses and staff to build on that foundation, expand access to high-quality care and ensure we continue delivering an exceptional experience for every patient and family we serve,” Workman said.
