Hackensack Meridian CEO Robert Garrett to retire June 30, 2027
Robert Garrett, CEO of Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health, plans to retire on June 30, 2027, according to a Sept. 21 health system news release reported by Becker's Hospital Review. Garrett will remain CEO while the board conducts a national search for his successor, with the board aiming to name a new CEO by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

Garrett is set to transition to CEO emeritus on July 1, 2027, for up to one year to assist the board and the incoming CEO with the transition, per the release.
He has led the system since its 2016 creation through the merger of Hackensack University Health Network and Meridian Health, serving as co-CEO before becoming sole CEO in 2018. During his tenure, the system grew to 18 hospitals, 41,000 team members and more than 500 patient care locations in New Jersey, and it opened the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.
