Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist names Matthew Edwards CEO, effective Sept. 14

Matthew Edwards, MD, has been appointed area president and CEO of Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, effective Sept. 14, according to a Sept. 3 health system news release shared with Becker's Hospital Review.

Edwards will also serve as executive vice president for clinical health affairs at Wake Forest University. He most recently was chief physician executive for the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist area and is a professor of vascular and endovascular surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Edwards joined the system more than 30 years ago and previously chaired vascular and endovascular surgery at the medical school and served as chief of surgical operations at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. He succeeds Craig Greven, MD, who had been interim CEO since April.

David Zaas, MD, was appointed CEO in January but exited to become CEO of Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System, effective May 1. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is part of Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health.
