Ochsner names ED physician Alexander Fortenko VP of innovation to lead AI strategy
New Orleans-based Ochsner Health has appointed Alexander Fortenko, MD, as vice president of innovation, placing him in charge of the health system's artificial intelligence and emerging technology strategy, according to a Sept. 1 news release.

In the role, Fortenko will lead Innovation Ochsner, including its data science team, AI Center of Excellence and chief medical information officers team. His responsibilities span AI governance, technology infrastructure and expansion of the innovation team, while he continues practicing as an emergency department physician.
Fortenko joins Ochsner from NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, where he served as medical director of hospital at home and director of clinical innovation. He helped develop and launch NewYork-Presbyterian's hospital-at-home program and, during the COVID-19 pandemic, led its telemedicine operations and helped establish remote patient monitoring programs and enterprise telemedicine quality standards.
He earned his medical degree and a master's degree in public health from George Washington University.
