Vail Health to Go Live with Epic EHR in October 2026 to Unify Patient Records
Vail Health will transition its electronic health record system to Epic on Oct. 3, 2026, according to an Aug. 31 announcement. The new system will unify patient records from across the health system's entities, including Colorado Mountain Medical, Howard Head Sports Medicine, and Vail Health Hospital, which previously used separate systems.
The implementation, launched in collaboration with UCHealth, includes the MyChart patient portal. This will give patients a single access point for scheduling, viewing test results, messaging providers, and paying bills. According to Vail Health CIO Julie Jackson, the goal is to "connect better within the organization and with other hospitals."
Officials stated the change supports Vail Health's growth and improves care continuity. The system's interoperability is expected to benefit the area's tourist population by allowing providers to more easily access visitor health records from other Epic-enabled hospitals. According to CMIO Marshall Davis, the platform's data analysis tools will also be used to identify community health trends.
