UT MD Anderson President Peter Pisters to Retire; Jeffrey Lee Named Interim
Peter Pisters, MD, will retire as president of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center on Sept. 30 after a nine-year tenure. According to an Aug. 26 announcement, Jeffrey Lee, MD, was named interim president, effective immediately. Pisters will assist with the leadership transition through the end of September.
Lee, a surgical oncologist, has been with MD Anderson for 35 years and serves as executive vice president, chief physician executive, and chief cancer network officer. The institution stated that Lee is expected to lead for the next several years.
Pisters returned to MD Anderson as president on Dec. 1, 2017. According to the institution, his tenure included the launch of a $10 billion capital expansion, the strongest financial performance in its history, and a philanthropic campaign that has raised $2.16 billion toward a $2.5 billion goal. Pisters said in a statement that his work had reached a "natural milestone."
