Baystate Health Names Dr. Seth Gemme Chief Physician Executive, President of Medical Practices
Baystate Health announced on Aug. 7, 2026, that it has promoted Dr. Seth Gemme to Chief Physician Executive for the health system and President of Baystate Medical Practices. Dr. Gemme, who joined the Springfield, Mass.-based organization in 2017, will serve as a physician advisor to leadership in his new capacity.
His most recent position was Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine for both Baystate Health and UMass Chan Medical School–Baystate. Dr. Gemme has previously held other leadership roles within the system, including system Vice Chair of Clinical Operations for Emergency Medicine and Chief of the Emergency Department at Baystate Wing Hospital.
In his new role, Dr. Gemme will lead initiatives to improve clinical access and throughput across Baystate's five hospitals. His responsibilities also include advancing physician-led transformation and strengthening quality and safety. He previously led operational improvements, including an emergency department patient flow model and a real-time surge management tool.
