CEO of closed Chicago-area safety-net hospitals offered $2.8M, Range Rover to exit

Court filings show Manoj Prasad, CEO of shuttered West Suburban Medical Center and Weiss Memorial Hospital, was offered a payout including $600,000 for six months of consulting, nearly $2.2 million transferred from a hospital account to his daughter, and a 2022 Range Rover Sport to step down, per ABC7 Chicago.

The offer was part of a settlement that would let Insight Health take over management of both hospitals. Insight has run Mercy Hospital in Bronzeville since 2021. The facilities' co-owner, Rathnaker Patlola, sued Prasad after the hospitals closed; Prasad and Resilience Healthcare, the owner, rejected the deal in court.

A state audit described Prasad's leadership as "unstable and overstretched," and inspectors cited serious physician staffing and facility issues. Resilience owes Illinois taxpayers over $100 million. A judge may enforce the settlement at an Aug. 25 hearing; attorneys for Patlola warned the hospitals may never reopen otherwise.
