Sturgis Hospital to Cease Operations, Citing Financial and Utilization Issues
Sturgis Hospital announced in a June 2026 statement that it would cease all operations. Hospital leadership attributed the closure to years of financial challenges, rising costs, and declining patient utilization, stating they were unable to secure the necessary resources to continue operating.
The closure impacts all hospital services, including emergency care, surgery, laboratory, medical imaging, and outpatient clinics. Patients requiring emergency services are being directed to other area hospitals.
According to mapping estimates from the hospital, the nearest alternative facility, Parkview LaGrange Hospital, is an estimated 18-minute drive. Other hospitals are approximately 32 to 34 minutes away. According to a News Channel 3 report, hospital officials did not comment on the timing of the announcement, which came days before operations were set to end. Patient medical records will be maintained per state and federal requirements.
