USA Health to Close Labor and Delivery Unit at Mobile's Providence Hospital on June 30
USA Health will close the labor and delivery unit at its Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama, on June 30, AL.com reported on June 15. The health system said the closure coincided with the shutdown of Mobile OB-GYN, a private practice that had operated at the hospital.
Starting July 1, all of the health system's labor and delivery services will be consolidated at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital. In a statement, USA Health said it has expanded capacity at the Children's & Women's facility to serve all patients, including those transferring from the closing private practice.
USA Health acquired Providence Hospital from Ascension in late 2023. The system stated it has offered continuing roles to many of the affected Providence staff. According to the report, Mobile OB-GYN will permanently close on July 2. Other providers in Mobile offering labor and delivery services are Infirmary Health and Springhill Medical Center.
