Trump Administration Issues Price Transparency Warnings to Hospitals in Kentucky and Indiana
On June 11, it was reported that the Trump administration sent letters to hospitals in Kentucky and Indiana, among others, regarding compliance with federal price transparency rules. According to the Associated Press, 500 hospitals nationwide received either warning letters or requests to submit corrective action plans.

In Kentucky, UofL Health Jewish Hospital, Eastern State Hospital, and Sun Behavioral Health received requests for corrective action plans. Five other Kentucky hospitals received warning letters. Indiana had one of the highest numbers of notices in the country with 38, including Wellstone Regional Hospital and Brightwell Behavioral Health.
A spokesperson for UofL Health stated that the system complies with federal laws and that the issue was a "mismatch in naming convention" on a pricing list that has since been corrected. The spokesperson added that CMS confirmed the remedy was compliant and that its data transparency was not the issue.
Facilities that do not comply with the regulations face potential annual penalties of up to $2 million. The administration's stated rationale for the enforcement is that price disclosure will help lower healthcare costs.
